Parks & Rec – Budget Forums & Hearing

PP&R, in collaboration with Commissioner Amanda Fritz and the Bureau’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) has submitted the Bureau’s Requested Budget to Mayor Hales. Our BAC includes the Parks Board, representatives from the neighborhood coalitions and representatives from the African Youth and Community Organization (AYCO), Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) and Hacienda Community Development Corporation (Hacienda CDC).  The BAC also includes our labor representatives (DCTU Contract, Laborers Local 483 Recreation Contract, COPPEA Contract).

As you may know, Mayor Hales asked all bureaus to submit 5% reduction packages from the General Fund. He is using this year’s budget process to determine if any budget realignments should be made within bureaus and between bureaus to fund City priorities, as well as other basic service needs. We made ongoing budget requests that include an ask to satisfy our arbitration agreement and more support for Parks for New Portlanders and the Ranger program. The City’s financial forecast also includes one-time resources, which allowed the Bureau to develop one-time add packages as well. These add packages include a significant amount for our most critical major maintenance needs and other one-time asks.

I know that looking at reductions again is stressful for the community and our staff. Please understand that this list is preliminary.  No decisions by the Mayor or Council have been made, and there is a long process ahead that includes more public input.

We are grateful to all who have participated in the budget process in some way over the last several months—and we look forward to seeing you at the Council’s budget hearings. Those three forums are at the following times/locations:
