Old Town’s Street Festival Returns For A Second Year With A New Look Alongside Sneaker Week and Art in the Pearl

With the mission of re-engaging community, Old Town Community Association presents ICONOCLAST : Old Town PDX Street Festival Friday August 31st, 2018 and Saturday September 1, 2018. Formerly ‘Art in the Open’, ICONOCLAST beams with newness to its predecessor both in theme and logistics.

“Well first, iconoclasm is rejecting existing beliefs or established values and practices. In order to shift neighborhood perception, we must collectively reject and boldly challenge everything the general public currently believes about Old Town.” said Old Town District Manager, Erika Ellis.  “Old Town as a community is fed up with the old and narrow feedback loop. We are diverse. We are cultured. And we are vibrant. So with ICONOCLAST we are sharing the way we see ourselves”

‘ICONOCLAST’ is free and open to the public on NW 3rd Avenue between Burnside and Everett from 4pm to 10pm on Friday and 2pm to 10pm on Saturday. The street festival overlaps with Sneaker Week (August 26 – September 1) with the two groups collaborating on a Sneaker themed fashion show on Saturday September 1 at 6pm on the NW Davis Festival Street.

Over 40 local vendors and makers, many from My People’s Market, will have booths set up along the street closure with performances from local artists and musicians.

“We hope to have a vibe that is Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica meets Portland Night Market; the latter having a very special place in my heart,” said Ellis. “Community is at the core of PNM’s values, and that’s what we’re aiming to honor in our efforts in Old Town.”

Ellis worked with the Portland Night Market team curating creatives and crafting visitor experiences prior to serving the Old Town district.
