Preparedness survey to guide projects designed to reduce risk from natural hazards

There’s work we can do now, together, to reduce our risks from natural hazards like floods, earthquakes, landslides, storms and wildfires. We can’t do it all and we can’t do it all at once.  With your help, though, the City of Portland can prioritize projects that limit the impact of natural hazards on the systems and services that we need the most.

The City has released a simple preparedness survey to get a better understanding of how Portlanders prepare for emergencies and what they worry about when it comes to natural hazards. The information will be used to help the City better understand the work that needs to be done to get Portland ready for those events.

In addition to English, the survey is available in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese and Vietnamese.

Survey participants may enter to win one of five $150 emergency preparedness kits or a mini emergency kit.

The survey supports an ongoing city project updating Portland’s natural hazard mitigation plan (NHMP).  PBEM is working with a wide range of community and government partners to update the plan.  The plan will identify the City’s natural hazard risks (flooding, earthquakes, landslides, extreme weather, wildfire and more) and the projects that can be done in advance to reduce the impact those hazards have on Portland residents. For more information about the NHMP.
