Wellness on the Waterfront

Portland’s ‘Problem Child’ Neighborhood Partners With Lifestyle Brand to Challenge Negative Perception With Day of Yoga and Community

With the mission of re-engaging community, Old Town Community Association has partnered with Lululemon to host Wellness on the Waterfront, a Summer Solstice celebration honoring International Day of Yoga on Thursday June 21st, 2018.

“There’s a lot more to Old Town than what you hear on the news,” said Old Town’s District Manager, Erika Ellis. “We are Portland’s most diverse and cultured district. It’s even in our history. And now, we’re ready to outshine what is perceived as bad about our neighborhood by uplifting all that is good about our neighborhood.”

Wellness on the Waterfront is free and open to the public at the Japanese American Historical Plaza (at Northwest Couch Street on the waterfront) with classes offered at 7am, 12pm, 5:30pm, and 7pm. The event is slated to bring heavy hitter yoga instructors like Bibi McGill aka music director and lead guitarist for Beyoncé’s backing band, the Suga Mamas.

No yoga mat? No problem. Community mats will be made available to the first 100 guests of each session.

Not into yoga? That’s cool. Beyond the flagship yoga activity on the waterfront, the entire district will be active throughout the day with bicycle tours from Cycle Portland; ride codes from BIKETOWN; Tai Chi & calligraphy workshops at Lan Su Chinese Garden; a pop-up clinic from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine; and many others.
