Thanks for your interest in the Central City Multimodal Project, PBOT’s effort to make getting around Portland’s Central City safer and easier by prioritizing and building active transportation projects.
The Central City is home to the densest population of people and jobs in the state – and it is growing. This fall, PBOT wrapped up an online survey in English and Spanish to collect early input on the project. The survey asked how people get around the Central City, why they travel here and what sorts of barriers they face. 3,472 people responded.
Key takeaways include:
- People want multimodal improvements: 3,106 of the 3,472 people surveyed said they would visit the Central City more if multimodal improvements were made.
- Portlanders come to the Central City for fun! Eating and drinking (82%), entertainment (72%) and shopping (69%) were top reasons for coming to the Central City
- Top concerns for travelling in the Central City included (1) conflicts between people driving, people biking and people walking, (2) the amount of automobile traffic, and (3) missing bike connections or bike lane conditions.
We also asked Portlanders for their best ideas for making the Central City better for walking, biking or transit. We received 2,520 ideas(!) which we’re still reviewing.
