What’s That Smell? There’s an App for That.

Portland Clean Air (PCA) encourages Portlanders to download a free app for reporting air pollution called Smell MyCity. The app crowdsources community reports of pollution odors to develop a portrait of air quality across the Portland region.

Users can document positive or negative reports based on the smell outside, which PCA’s toxic smell response team will use to monitor areas and pinpoint sources.

Other features:

— Visit the Smell MyCity website to access public smell report data

— Use the map visualization page to see how smell reports are distributed across the city over time

— The data access page enables anyone to download smell report data for further analysis

PCA worked in partnership with Dr. Beatrice Dias from Carnegie Melon University and Seventh Generation to develop the app. If you have any questions about the app contact Dr. Dias at bea.createlab@gmail.com.

The Smell MyCity app is available on the App Store and on Google Play.
