2018 Neighborhood Small Grant Projects

Community Preparedness Event: Arlington Heights Neighborhood Association
May 3
$300 Grant
Arlington Heights and Sylvan-Highlands are joining up to offer a Emergency Preparedness event for their neighbors. The projects first goal is to engage and acquaint two neighborhood associations to strengthen their involvement and connections. Secondly, they will learn from topic qualified speakers providing information and answers regarding serious emergencies, such as a major earthquake. In addition the will collect and donate emergency supplies to an under-served neighborhood.
Uncut Experience: Uncut PDX
April 15
$2,500 Grant
Experience Youth Music Event will connect local teens to local music industry pro’s and musicians in an interactive environment. The goal is to inspire the next generation by giving them access to the people who know the music scene the best. It will be a 5 hour event including live music & networking for kids.
Multicultural Celebration Series: Friendly House
Pride Block Party, June 8
Festival de Dia de Muertos, November 2
$2,090 Grant
Friendly House wants to increase the number and diversity of people involved in our community and neighborhood through multicultural celebrations. A Pride Block Party in June and a Festival de Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead Festival) in November will bring in several partners and offer new experiences for the NW Portland neighborhood.
Art in the Open: Old Town Community Association

$2,500 Grant
Art in the Open is striving to improve the neighborhood through connecting local businesses with others in the neighborhood as well as attracting visitors to the area. Art in the Open held last summer marked a great start of achieving that goal. We brought artists to perform all over the neighborhood over two days. This year will expand on the success from last year and connect Old Town with Art in the Pearl.
Goose Hollow Day Street Festival: Goose Hollow Foothills League

$2,000 Grant
Goose Hollow Day is a Street Festival to celebrate the neighborhood, support the businesses, share history, and build community. The theme for this 2nd annual GHD is “Goose Hollow’s Multi-Cultural History.” GHFL, sponsors, and volunteers will continue building on the success of GHD last September, and hopefully create a community tradition that will grow and feature new groups and businesses each successive year to promote this unique Portland neighborhood.
Autumn Moon Festival: Lan Su Chinese Garden

$2,500 Grant
Lan Su Chinese Garden is expanding its Autumn Moon Festival to include a day/night market and a weekend full of arts and culturally-specific activities and programming. The festival will engage thousands of community members in cross-cultural learning and connect them to Portland’s Old Town Chinatown.
Newsletter & Online Calendar: ESL Gallery Association
$1,000 Grant
The ESL Gallery Association represents galleries owned by artists. Many are young and with little business or life experience. An Association newsletter & calendar offers an avenue for all the galleries to promote themselves and their work. It also informs the Old Town community of activities for residents to attend for free.
“Good Morning Miss America”: Phyllis Yes/Coho Theatre

CoHo presented the play “Good Morning Miss America.” Dealing with the theme of aging parents as they go through the shifting landscape of fragile health. The play meant to generate conversations about the topic, bring community awareness and nudge people to plan ahead. They offered community discussions after each performance with experts in various aspects of health and aging topics.
