Free Yard Tree Registration Celebration

The Yard Tree Giveaway is back and the folks at Portland Parks & Recreation’s Urban Forestry are getting ready to give away over 2,000 free trees to Portlanders!

Come celebrate our kickoff into the planting season. Learn about the trees we will be giving away this year. Staff will be available to walk you through our registration form. We will have snacks and crafts at this family friendly event. Urban Forestry experts can answer questions about tree species and site selection. Celebrate Portland Arbor Day on October 14 at McCoy Park


Celebrate Trees and the Fall Season Join us on October 14, 2023, at McCoy Park for Portland Arbor Day! Tree planting starts at 10:00 am. The Arbor Day celebration goes from 11:30 am–1:30 pm. Celebrate trees and fall with art, games, food and more! Activities include an Arbor Day Proclamation and Bill Naito Community Tree Awards.

Urban Forestry Rescues and Rehomes Honeybee Colony from Downtown Portland

On a sunny day in July, Urban Forestry responded to a challenging situation. A honeybee colony established itself in a tree in a high-traffic area in downtown Portland. Honeybees, both domesticated and wild, are social insects that multiply to form new colonies. Most of the time, these free-form bee colonies are not a problem. But bees in a busy downtown location, well, that’s another story.
