Hiking Through History – How Greed Transformed the Land

November 21st and 26th, 2023

Start time: 10am

Where: Lower Macleay TH

What: Join Forest Park Conservancy on a low impact hike in Forest Park, guided by Tanya March Phd. Learn more about man made alterations, and different interesting historical facts!

This Hike will start at Lower Macleay trailhead and go to several different attractions including the Witch’s Castle. Our guide is an architectural historian, focusing on how greed in philanthropy transformed the land in the last century and a half.  Feel free to come and take pictures of the autumn beauty that is Forest Park as you indulge in the history and learn how Forest Park came to be!

Preparation: Please be sure to wear close-toed shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and bring sunscreen and bug spray, if you believe you might need it! Please sign up to secure your spot!

We provide: A morning of educational fun, a local researcher/historian and a wonderful hike to help work up a holiday appetite!

Activity info: All participants must register for the event, which will be capped at 18 guests

This activity takes place outdoors in the open air, and though participants often pass each other on the narrow trail, we have lots of room to spread out. With that in mind, masks and vaccination are not required for this activity. However, we require volunteers to stay home when feeling any symptoms of illness (regardless of COVID-19 test result) and fully support participants’ choice to wear a mask if desired.
