We are thrilled to have art of Mia Arvizu and Jeff Liddicoat exhibited for the next month at the offices of NWNW. All are welcome to drop in and see their amazing creations at 434 NW 6th Ave Suite 202 in Old Town. The opening of the exhibit is next Thursday, August 17th from 4pm-8pm, with another event celebrating our community the following evening. Admission is free and food and beverages will be available. Additionally, Oscar Sparkle will be performing as a music guest both nights. Please come out and meet these amazing artists and expand your horizons.
Mia Arvizu is an acrylic visual butterfly painting to inspire liberation. Their brush strokes, influenced by their indigenous and queer identities, provide mirrors of reflection, critiques of unjust systems, and plant seeds of power. This young artist was born in Bakersfield, CA and is now based in Portland, OR. Mia considers themselves community taught as friends and family have been essential to their emergence and practice as an artist. Mia’s work consistently carries themes of environmental justice, emergence, queer pride, and nature’s calling. So far, their work has been published in a collegiate review journal, shown in group shows and shown in artistic gathering spaces. Mia has also led several art facilitations working with diverse groups including a queer students of color conference, Parkinson’s Disease conference, and with a global creatives group called STING. Come see their latest work and celebrate the arts at the upcoming show Healing Frequencies at Neighbors West-Northwest.
Jeff Liddicoat is a sculpture, using primarily found objects, and a member of our houseless community. His work finds beauty in places that are unexpected, raw, and somehow playful.
